New around here, and looking for some answers/validation

Ok, so I'll write this out again lol. I was a sensitive child. I could always feel other people's emotions, it was over whelming. My mother's favorite description of me back then was "You always cry for the family, when no one else can." She never knew just how painful that was for me, we didn't have a happy child hood, and my mother was severely depressed, and at times suicidal. I never knew why until really right now, but I was also suicidal as a child, I mean as young as 9 and 10 years old. My mother later told me that she was very very depressed and regularly thought of suicide at that time frame. My sister has emotional disorders, and was moody as all hell. School was a living nightmare, the amount of emotions, was crazy. I started faking being sick in 2nd grade to get away.
I also had/have crazy vivid dreams. I believe some of these are out of body experiences, they were just too real. Others, one in particular I believe is a past life memory, I had it when I was 6, I'm 26 now and still remember it like I had it yesterday.
Now lets talk the spirits. I saw visually two, for sure one of them was my great grandmother, who passed one year before me to the day. With out ever knowing her I have always felt a very strong connection with her, and one night when I was 7 or 8 she came to me. She didn't say anything, but projected lots of love and peace, and calmness. I think she was just telling me she was there. The other spirit was not nice, I don't even think it was human. It was terrifying, and I couldn't sleep the rest of the night. It was black, a shadow really, but more solid..fluid movements and just such a negative energy, again, over 20 years have passed and I can still remember just how scared I was. I also remember walking along a lot through woods, I've always been attracted to wooded areas, and sensing the different spirit energies around me, even trying to talk with them. I never "heard" them then, it was more like feeling their emotional answer, than hearing a speaking one. I'm not even sure any of this makes sense lol.
It has been about 3 years since the last spirit tried to talk, to me, maybe she's a spirit guide, I'm not sure. Really she's the only one to contact me this way, but I was sitting in my living room, either my children were not home, or both napping (more probable.) Anyway, I heard my name called by a woman. The voice was in my head, but most definitely NOT my voice. It was calm, higher than mine, and not at all malevolent. Her name started with a K...she told me, but I was pretty scared. She told me not to be afraid, that she was here to help me. At this point I was so scared I shut her out, and have not heard from her since.
I am an old soul, I know this, I can feel it down deep, my oldest daughter is as well, and I believe our souls have been intertwined for a long long time.
My ability to sense other's feelings has been shut down for a very long time, since puberty. I remember the effort it took for me to turn it off, but now I'd like to be able to tap into it again, and maybe explore some of my other possible abilities. I'd also like to get some feedback on these experiences, and how/what I can learn from them as an adult.
Thank you all for your help.

Your experiences make perfect sense, and are not as unusual as you seem to think; most people just don't talk about and often block such memories. Empathy (the multi-dimensional ability to feel other people's emotions) is the most common psychic ability.

It might help you to read some of what Dean Radin has to say at http://www.deanradin.com/ about psychic ability. That might be a good introduction to the science of it. He gives a good introduction to the concepts and the science behind such things.

I had many similar experiences as a child, including with the shadow beings. My research indicates that many children encounter them between the ages of six and eight. They are sent to scare people enough to get them to shut off their multi-dimensional senses.

I train intuitives, and am working with several organizations to create intuitive training programs. You are welcome to visit my web sites at http://www.myspace.com/QuantumEmpowermentCoach and search for my name at http://www.Facebook.com for more information about me, my organization and our trainings. The site for my organization is www.KnightMC.com though I have not posted as much about psychic ability there as I soon will be: now that I just finished the introductory presentation for our Quantum Empowerment TrainingTM program.

I would be happy to work with you to bring back your psychic awareness. I too shut down all the abilities I could after my shadow encounter, but I could not completely shut off the empathy or sometimes telepathy. I eventually decided to awaken again when I discovered that some of my friends were being attacked or manipulated. I decided to face my fears in order to help people, and began a spiritual awakening that continues to this day.

If you're interested, let me know. I wish you happiness and peace along your spiritual journey.

Your intent will hhelp you to reopen the channels. Try taking a class in meditation and learning some tools like the Tarot, the Runes or I ching to help you reconnect and trigger some openings... and read, read, read... the more you learn about spirit life, being a medium and psychic, the more naturally it will come to you. Hope that helps, Lotsa LLLove, Danielle
Another thing that's useful is simply to say to the world around you, "I am listening", and put your intent behind it (you mean it, and you keep it in mind). With practice, you can "tune out" destructive channels.

Your intent is a very powerful tool. Use it, and give it priority (take time out specifically to listen, and find quiet places to practise, e.g. your wooded areas).

Children listen naturally, focussing their complete interest on one thing at a time. Adults have to keep track of their environment, plans, processes etc., so they have very crowded, noisy minds. Many adults don't listen well. To quiet the noise in your mind, it helps a lot to deal with any anxieties you are carrying. Find balance and peace within yourself, not in some external person or thing. Tai Chi can help with this, although everyone has their own rhythm.

I wish you a good journey. :)

Meghanne,
Thank you for sharing. Every answer you have gotten is dead on and brilliant. I am you , your whole story grew up scared to death in a home with a brutalized older sister, she was the victim of his pervert appatites and so I got the hitting and punishments. It was horrible which made me go in my head and find my own place to Survive the pain . I lost it at about 17 when I had him arrested and was able to have real life experiences of my own not just in my head. But, I also received a beautiful gift (did not know it then_ but God made me super open to others. I could feel their happiness or pain so clearly it was happening to me in a way. I as you , SHUT IT OFF and ran , drank, pain killed with studies at school anything I could do to not get sucked in . Now , I have opened it all back up again. it has not been a lovely beginning as if you read my bio page you will see I let something REALLY BAD IN, but READ READ READ , ask questions but if you are really going to go down this path. PROTECT YOURSELF. BEING AN EMPATH IS A BEAUTIFUL THING AND GIVES YOU AN ABILITY TO HELP AND HEAL SO MANY ! If however you don't self protect you will get so sucked in you will LOSE YOU. I know been there done that. If that happens nobody can be helped by you. It is a gift given to all of us some more loudly than others. It is up to you to use this gift or not but please do it wisely. I know you are already as you are HERE , asking all the right questions, keep learning ,keep asking , keep helping , but above ALL keep protecting you and those you love. You don't want to bring home any unwanted guests. PEACE AND LIGHT ALWAYS ! MARY

I agree tai chi is wonderful , it is so hard to turn your head off though. I find myself telling my Guardian Angel that I will be silent and he can talk and would he let me hear him? I can never do it though my mind continues to run on. I'm going to try the I'm listening and see if that opens some doors for me . My Guardians have been a little easier I received names as soon as I asked. But , again it is not really clairaudient it is more felt than heard. I'm so new at this though , just finding out and it will take my whole life to get it right lol , as you don't live anymore if you stop asking questions , so I'll be here asking when I'm 99 . Peace and Many thanks , Mary

I find that meditation works best for me, my students and our team for clearing and focusing the mind. It sounds like the problem you are having is that you are focusing on clearing and constantly pushing away the thoughts instead of learning to view them as separate from yourself and allow them to float by without distraction. There are many forms of meditation, but clearing the mind and finding peace is the place a busy mind must start. There are many ways to do this. The Buddhists seem to have a greater understanding than most of such things. If you would like help on this, let me know.

I have been getting many requests from my clients and organizations to teach these things, and so I have created the beginner level of a meditation education and application series I am working on, both to teach meditation principles and give a peaceful guided meditation for beginners to learn to quiet the mind. I am testing the system with some of my clients, and will be releasing it to the public soon. So far, everything is going quite well. The advanced versions will incorporate the latest scientific brainwave technologies I have been researching and using myself to make the process faster and easier.

I wish you well on your journey. Focus on feeling peace and love as often as you can, and the world will change to reflect this vibration.

Meditation doesn't come easily to me. I'm not sure if it's because my life is so busy that I just can't seem to calm down, or really even find the time for it. I used to meditate all the time, it helped me to keep things in perspective, but kids happened lol. I also think that a subconscious fear (or maybe not so subconscious) of lack of control over it is holding me back from reaching that relaxed, peaceful state of mind. I thank you all for the advice so far, and will hopefully at the least be able to reach a meditative state so as to gain some deeper understanding of myself.

These are common problems, and it's probably a combination of all of it. I myself have a daughter, and have helped raise other children, so I know how that goes. You have to choose to make time, and figure out what methods and possibly tools work best for you to reach a meditative state. You also need to learn about the different types/uses of meditation. I'm creating classes on this along with the guided meditation program, which we should be launching over the next month or so.

For now, there are a few keys I will give you that might help. First, the best times to meditate are right before you go to bed or first thing in the morning after you wake up. If you want to know the science behind that, let me know. Most people like quick answers, so I try to be brief.

Second, it often helps people to visualize themselves in a peaceful nature scene, use a focal point like the flame of a candle, or the waters of a stream or pond. This is why people like to visit the ocean. The calming energy of nature, and especially water, is easy to "tune in" to and become peaceful with. This is also the reason for the popular nature CD's for recreational and meditative use.

Third, there are new techniques that have been developed using energy frequencies which people can "tune in" and become peaceful with as well. These tune the brainwave frequency to a higher and more naturally peaceful state. You can find examples on YouTube, but many of these are not done correctly because the people creating them don't really understand what they're doing and, as often happens, are just copying people or taking information they only partially understand and putting it out there without knowing why and how it works and how to properly apply it. You can start experimenting with these, or watch my profile for an update when ours is finished and available publicly. Either way, I hope this helps.

Hi Meghanne,

One of the hardest parts of being psychic for me was that no one understood what I was going through. It was my experience that no one understood, except my father, who was saved in the war by a voice he heard that told him to go left, when the rest of his platoon heard go right and were killed. I was terrified by what I felt, heard, sensed and saw as a child and shut down, not able to make sense of it. It can be crazy making and a teacher is useful to ask questions of and guide you. Sage, at the Psychic Eye in Sherman Oaks, is really great and she is both teacher and reader. You can just call in and the charge is pretty nominal for a reader. Have a list of questions and write down the responses so you can review them later. Just getting confirmation and more information will help calm you and keep you centered. It is important to remain calm and centered as there are light and dark energies and you need to discern which is which, which are your thoughts and which are others. I've found psychic spying and manipulation to be a problem in love relationships and not everyone tells you they have these abilities. As you grow, through the law of attraction, you draw people like yourself so to protect yourself you need to have tools of protection.

First, keep a light by your bed to keep dark energies away. Keep your living space clean and bright. If you are having nightmares, turn on the light and ask for Archangel Michael to protect you. Say to yourself, "I surround myself in white light." Then it is done. Keep calling in the light until you don't feel darkness. You can say to them, I am from the light, you must go away. I plead the blood of the lambs. Recite Psalm 91. You will be challenged as you grow. Don't fear it. Just strengthen yourself and have the tools to deal with it.

It is also important to clear yourself of others energies and call in protection so you don't absorb them. You are like a sponge (I am too and had to learn to deal with that part of being psychic first so I could function). I regularly (every day or few days say, "I release all energy that is not my own (thanking the others for the use of it) and I call back my energy from the universe, making myself whole again." Also, imagine each day, besides putting on your clothes, you put on your protective gear of white light. I do this for my children as well. I also visualize myself sitting in a solid egg of mirrors as darkness does not like to see itself. If I feel someone is sending dark energy to me, I return it to sender. Ask Archangel Michael to be your postal carrier and return to sender all messages not from the light and for your highest good. I do this for my children as well. There is both dark and light energy and telling the difference can be difficult. I also use the light to wash all energies away and let them drain into the ground to be absorbed. These tools are simple, yet powerful. Most psychic stuff is done with intention and visualization, no need for elaborate rituals, unless you enjoy that.

There is a fantastic book that helped me called, Second Sight and written by Judith Orloff, M.D. I urge you to get it. It will help you to make sense of what you are going through, as well as the positive and negative. I agree that reading will help immensely. I've read hundreds of books and search the internet for answers when I experience something new. The universe will guide you to the answers. It could be in a book you pick up, could be in a song you hear, just be open to this and your guides and angels will get the information to you. Take it slowly and if you get overwhelmed, ask the universe to tone things down while you adjust.

Being psychic is both wonderful and challenging and we are often sent many challenges to overcome. I believe it is so we can help others and not be thrown by their experiences. We can help because we have experienced that challenge. After going to a mall, party, crowded place, or after being around someone who steals your energy (you will know, you feel depleted), take your psychic shower of white light and release, release, release.

I think the voice you heard is your spirit guide trying to help you. Ask her to come back and assist you now. Tell her that you are ready, if in fact you still are. Try to learn the difference between her energy and that of others. One of the challenges for me is learning to decipher who is speaking, including people, as we are becoming more telepathic as a society.

Angel blessings,

June

I know how u feel i have had that experience with me i could see spririts that wer not of this world and two of them wer my spirit guides and ther names wer Seraphina and Chareles.they said they came from a light ship and i would go with them wen i was very little im twenty one now and i can still see preminitions and i have been able to tap into peoples emotions and my husband just thinks its an excuse to getting out of taking care of our daughter but i live with my inlaws and my daughter is very much a specially gifted child she is the new wave of children the children of the white light the ones who r going to move us into the next age. When i was little i could see my oldest brother who died ten years before i was born and i didnt tell my mom about to til i was sixteen and it shocked her bad.i can also see auras and i am an indigo but i dont like to be put into boxes i have had walk in experiences wen i was younger i swear my soul has been switched out i dont feel like the same person. i hope this helped you alittle bit and remember your not alone in this i can be your friend.namaste friend.

Perhaps all of us in some ways at times cut off our psychic gifts.  it is difficult living in a world of logical people. I cut off all ties for the past two years.  It did not make any difference.

I grew up in a very abusive houshold. Mentally, emotionally, spiritually and pshchically there was rampant abuse. My mother up til the day she died declared for all who would listen that I was "crazy".  For a while I actually believed her. I could not find anyone to validate my experiences.  One day I found a book by Edgar Casey, known as the sleeping prophet.  Now I have a very vast library in spiritual, mental, psychic matters.

I am a psychic and survivor who also gets  too excited and so on. I find that maeditation and a return to acceptance of my gifts and no medicine for night time  has helped very much.

I validate myself by reading about others on this site.  I also want you to know that all of us are here during thease times to give soltice and comfort to self, and then others.  Alas I am going to live longer then I orginally wanted.  Now I am content and have resumed my "spirit path".  Each one of us by sharing our experiences becomes a  better spiritual gifted person and can help all.  Yes, we are here to help with the changing world.  At last there is a great web to spin on the  "net" to bring good spirits in and for the love and better of leaving this a greater place to live in for future generations. Namaste, Jasmine
